The UIHC Presurgical Evaluation Clinic has one full-time (100%) opening for an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to perform pre-operative/pre-anesthesia assessments for patients scheduled for surgery in the UIHC.  This position will assist in the education of resident physicians, medical students, and nurse anesthesia students as they rotate through the clinic. This critical client care position participates in an independent role at the Civil Commitment Unit for Sexual Offenders (CCUSO).  The ARNP has primary responsibility for developing of treatment or individualized plans of care including prescribing medications, with an emphasis in the acute, chronic, and varied long-term healthcare and psychiatric issues affecting the CCUSO population.   The success of the position requires client education about preventative care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications, and the active facilitation of medical record evaluations by physicians, peers and quality standards according to credentialing, certification, licensing, regulations and CCUSO protocols.

The Public Health Nurse Practitioner (PHNP) is responsible for providing patient care in a caring, professional and cost-effective public health clinic.  Under the direction of the Public Health Supervisor, the PHNP will be involved in clinic operations including patient care, documentation, and policy input, equipment and supply maintenance, community health planning, program implementation and evaluation, and outcome reporting. The PHNP will be expected to work both independently and in a team environment, ensuring ongoing, effective communication and respect. Performs patient examinations and assessments. Performs and interprets laboratory tests and procedures. Provides patient consultation, referral, and health education/prevention programs in consultation with Medical Director, Public Health Nurse Supervisor and Health Department staff. Participates in community health systems and clinical operations, acting as a role model in ensuring a customer-driven medical service delivery model. Participates in the ongoing evaluation of clinic systems to ensure quality services and cost effectiveness including department continuous quality improvement. Prescribes and/or dispenses prescription only drugs, over-the-counter drugs, medical devices and/or appliances in accordance with the plan of accountability as approved by the Board of Nursing. Coordinates medical resources with social service resources to meet patient needs. Participates in agency and community efforts to identify and implement evidence-based programs to address patient health needs. Participates in emergency response training, drills and situations. Participates in staff meetings to address changes in policies and procedures, maintain staff communication and ensures high quality patient care. May perform clerical tasks including, but not limited to, scheduling appointments, answering phones, responding to or routing inquiries, and directing individuals and clients to appropriate agencies.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:       Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensed in Iowa required. A minimum of three (3) years nursing experience is required. Experience in public/community health service delivery is preferred. Ability to do physicals. Ability to work both independently and with a team in a growing and changing environment. Ability to evaluate medical orders and provide input on policies and procedures.  Ability to research effective treatments, programs and services. Ability to accurately record legal/medical documentation. Ability to do medication calculation based on kg. of body weight.  Responsible for
